Now let’s answer the burning question: Why are ceramic coatings so expensive? Well there are 3 reasons

  1. First and foremost, the ceramic coating application takes TIME. The average ceramic coating process takes about 8+ hours… Crazy right?

  2. Automotive ceramic coatings are the hardest, most durable, and most advanced form of paint protection that exists at the moment! We’re talking YEARS of protection… not months!

  3. Finally, in order to install ceramic coatings properly we put ourselves through some serious training. In fact, we spent about 90 days going through the most reputable online paint correction and ceramic coating training out there! We are even certified with a pro-grade ceramic coatings company called System X. In order to even use a professional-grade ceramic coating, you must go through training and become certified by a professional company. Not to mention all of the hands-on experience. At the end of the day, we are also charging for our expertise and we think we’re pretty good :)

What is a Ceramic Coating?

Since we are detailers, we’re tempted to get into the nitty-gritty of a ceramic coating and why it’s the 9th wonder of our San Diego auto detailing business. But we definitely don’t want to bore you!

A ceramic coating is like a thick winter coat you’d put on before going snowboarding. It’s a hyper-durable, and extremely hard layer of Silicon Dioxide (glass) that cures the entire exterior of your vehicle’s paint, glass, and other surfaces. Not only do ceramic coatings give a glossy and rich appearance to your vehicle’s paint. The nano ceramic coating we use is designed to last somewhere between 3 and 10+ years depending on the coating you choose. Ceramic coatings have 2 jobs:

  1. Long-term paint protection

  2. Glamorous gloss and shine (and we mean GLAMOROUS)

How Does A Ceramic Coating Work?

After the ceramic coating is applied to the paint, it’s as if your vehicle has an extra layer of ultra durable, UV protectant, and hydrophobic glass like skin. Ceramic coatings are designed to protect against everyday outside contaminants that comes to contact to the paint. For example bird droppings, pollen, bugs, road grime, surface scratches, and much more! While normal auto detailing services can help clean and protect you vehicles paint temporarily. Ceramic coatings form a sort of shield that protects your investment until the day it’s traded in or sold. This means you get more money in your pocket when you go to sell/trade your vehicle!

Washing and maintaining your car can be inconvenient and tiresome… so after we spend $50,000 on a vehicle, we slowly watch it degrade more and more over time because we don’t have time to keep up with it. We at ZA Autocare think it’s crazy to pay thousands of dollars for a car without protecting it first! Then years later sell/trade it in for a significantly reduced price because of the condition of the vehicle.

After the paint has been completely cleaned, decontaminated, and we’ve created a smooth surface through paint correction. A thin layer of liquid ceramic coating is applied thoroughly to the paint’s surface. The coating is left to bond to the paint and then carefully leveled and buffed off until all that remains is a thin ceramic layer. This is then left for 24 hours to cure. It’s that simple!
